Jayson Pablo asked:
A liquid crystal display or LCD monitor is a thin, flat device which is made up of a number of pixels arranged in front of a reflector. Each pixel of a LCD consists of a layer of molecules that are aligned between two transparent electrodes. There are also two polarising filters that are aligned perpendicular to each other. When a voltage is applied across the electrodes, a torque aligns the liquid crystal molecules parallel to the electric field. Light can be made to pass through in varying amounts by controlling the voltage applied across the liquid crystal layer in each pixel.
In colour LCD, each pixel is divided into three subpixels which are coloured red, green and blue. Each pixel can be controlled independently to yield millions of colours. High-resolution colour displays use an active matrix structure. In this structure, a matrix of thin film transistors (TFT) is added to the device’s colour and polarising filters. When a row-line is activated, all of the column lines get connected to a row of pixels. In this way, all the row lines are activated in sequence.
The active-matrix LCD monitors give more sharp and bright images than passive-matrix displays of the same size. They also have comparatively quicker response time. These displays are considered an important computer accessory as give you high-quality pictures. The displays are widely used in battery-powered electronic devices as they use a very small amount of electric power. The LG’s 17 inch monitor measures 365 x 378 x 180 mm. and weighs 3.1 kg. It supports a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels with 0.264 mm pixel pitch. The OSD buttons are located on the back panel of the monitor.
LG has launched a range of its newest LCD monitors. The LG LCD monitors offer high contrast ratio and superior resolution. These monitors come equipped with LG’s unique f-engine picture correction technology. These monitors offer a high digital contrast ratio of 5000:1. The LG LCD monitors have ultra-fast response time of 5Milli seconds. The monitors offer the users a rich multimedia experience. These monitors come equipped with PAL tuner technology that allows them to also double up as a desktop TV. The monitors can also be used for various computing purposes when connected to a PC.

Peter Thomas asked:
With the explosion in the popularity of the home cinema market in the last few years, advances in technology in this area has made it even easier to surround yourself with the latest gadgets at a relatively inexpensive cost. One such field in particular is that of liquid crystal display (LCD) TV’s, and Korean manufacturer LG is one of the leading examples.
With a philosophy to give users of their products both practicality and beauty, the latest generation of LCD TV’s from LG are some of the finest on the market today. Since LCD offers the best picture quality currently available, it’s become the product of choice for the knowledgeable consumer, and the models from LG are testament to this, whether it’s their flagship model or the lowest-cost entry version.
One of the ways that LG has improved the picture even further on their sets is through their XD Engine technology. With this feature, you can experience the true benefit of digital TV – colors are more vibrant, the clarity of picture on display is crystal clear, and the sound is immaculate. On the LG 42LB1DB model, one of the company’s flagships, this is further enhanced with features such as:
· 3D Digital Comb Filter, which ensures softer and more natural images
· DCDi High Quality Picture, essential when watching High Definition programming
· S-IPS, allowing a wider viewing angle for different seating positions
· SRS (TruSurround XT) for the most dynamic sound quality available
· Intelligent Eye, which will automatically adjust the screen to the lighting in your room
Yet it’s not just the larger LG LCD TV’s that benefit from the latest technology. Even their entry point model, the 15LW1R, benefits from the XD Engine enhancements. Not only that, but it also features:
· DCDi High Quality Picture
· Digital Comb Filter
· Digital Audio Surround Processor (DASP), which creates immersive sound
Another feature that LG has introduced to its LCD TV’s is that of the Electronic Picture Frame, or EPF. With this ingenious design, users can now look at their digital photographs in the largest way possible, especially if you have one of the 42″ models. By letting you insert a memory card from your digital camera into the allotted slot on your LCD TV, LG have given you a convenient tool and present your favorite photos as a slide show. You can even listen to MP3 music using EPF, for added relaxation.
With the option to hang your LCD TV on the wall( recommended plasce to purchase a mount – http://www.tv-wall-brackets.co.uk), with the slim and stylish design preventing the set from looking obtrusive, as well as the myriad of features and benefits LG have incorporated, there really is no better time than present for adding one of these beautiful TV’s into your own living space.

Tim Weems asked:
You want a flat screen TV that’s HD ready and you have heard about Lcd and Plasma TV.
But which is better, LCD or Plasma?
What is the difference?
Your requirements will actually help you make the decision.
What Screen Size do you require? Where are you going to put your TV?
LCD (liquid crystal display) – LCD TVs are becoming the most popular technology. They have many advantages such as low power consumption, ability to display the highest resolutions (1080p), LCDs are flat, many are wall mountable. The disadvantage of an LCD is that their ability to show contrast is less than some other technologies like plasma. LCDs in the past were also slower to refresh (not so with the current models). These disadvantages are quickly disappearing. Today’s LCD HDTVs have greatly improved on contrast and refresh speed. The latest LCD technology is 120hz. Most LCDs are silent with no moving parts or fans. LCD’s are brighter than Plasma HDTVs and so are better suited in well lit rooms during the day than plasmas.
Plasma displays are very popular as well. They have higher contrast than LCDs (although that gap is closing), and can display HDTV with stunning clarity. Plasma sets also display fast action (sports, action movies) better. The disadvantages of plasma are that they take more electricity than LCDs, and can generate more heat. Many have built in fans. Plasma screens are susceptible to screen burn-in (new models compensate with various screen-saving methods). Heavier than LCDs.
Some HDTV’s displays have a more limited viewing angle than others. They lose contrast and become hard to read at some viewing angles and they have more contrast and are easier to read at others. Generally the higher the viewing angle, the better. This is especially important when a group of people are watching an HDTV at the same time. Modern High Definition TVs have much better viewing angles, and it is not as big an issue as it was in the past.
You could count on at least 20 years for an LCD TV screen life, and a Good 10 years for the Plasma screen life.
When purchasing an HDTV you will see familiar top level brands such as Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, Pioneer, etc. Then you will see 2nd tier brands that sell at substantial discounts to the top brands. We recommend only top tier brands for several reasons. One is that many of these 2nd tier brands offer poor servicing should something go wrong. Some charge you the freight to either ship the TV to them or back after repair. One brand we saw offers no parts after the one year warranty is up, so in effect it is a throwaway TV. Higher end TVs have better video processors for upconverting and reducing digital noise. For these reasons we believe that top tier brands are the best way to go even though there is a higher initial cost.
I also know where the LG 42″ LCD TV is sold, for $1029.00 and here is the description…

John Thompson asked:
A flat panel television is a light television set that hangs from the wall or ceiling and only three or four inches thick. The most ordinary flat panel televisions are either plasma or LCDs, which stands for liquid crystal display.
These flat panel televisions are very popular because of not only the size but also elegance and performance. This innovative technology dominates the television market and they are now more affordable as the prices have decreased. As with any new technology, there are a few disadvantages but certainly far more advantages when it comes to flat panel televisions.
The most basic advantage of purchasing a flat panel television is its weight and size. One person can not only carry it easily but also hang it up like a picture. You can lug it from room to room, place it almost anywhere instead of having to purchase a television stand or entertainment centre to house the old type televisions.
Behind direct view televisions, plasma flat panel televisions have an excellent picture and the LCDs are extremely close. When it comes to satellite programming and displaying cable, LCDs sometimes lack a little.
The selection of flat panel televisions is practically limitless with a huge selection of sizes. Plasma flat panel televisions start at 42 inches so models smaller than that are LCDs. Unlike plasma televisions, manufacturers designed LCD flat panel televisions to combine and interact with your PC while still operating as a television. Never use your plasma television to display video games or as a computer monitor as burn-in could be a problem.
Both plasma and LCD flat panel televisions have an above average life expectancy of over fifteen years and unlike rear projection televisions, they have no lamp to replace so are more cost efficient.
Shop intelligently and enjoy the new flat panel televisions of your desires.
