Reviews for: (Hot New 8GB Widescreen MP4 Player With 3 Inch LCD) Very nice mp4 player by ELPINIKI VOURTZOUMI on 01/16/2009: Very nice mp4 player. It was everything great. Just if it was touchscreen it would had been better. Very nice and friendly menu.

Fantastic picture and sound in a slick light unit with a lot of memory. by Paul Newman on 01/08/2009: I received 3 of these units in perfect order (well packed) via Air Mail to South Africa within 8 days of placing the order on the Chinavasion website on 31 December 2008. My interaction with Chinavasion during the order process was more professional than any dealings I have ever had with any other firm to date and the shipping proceeded far beyond my expectations. The Hot New 8GB Widescreen Player with 3 Inch LCD (for lack of a better name) is slim, compact and really really light. I wish I had an electronic scale to give you a figure. It is mostly plastic and that contributes to its light weight. It has no solid feel like the other metal-body units are sure to have, but the light weight also makes it really portable. It is really easy to hold, especially for younger hands. The finish is glossy black and silver with good build quality and nothing shabby about it at all. The screen is fantastic, crisp and bright. Photo viewing on it is a pleasure! It makes a really nice pocket photo album, especially with the 8GB memory. The scaling of the photos produces a fine image without scaling artifacts. The 3-inch widescreen format really is a pleasure to view. Viewing angles are not a problem. I have not yet tested the video playback enough to comment on it, nor have I tried video conversions and all that. The menu system is well worked out, with excellent looking default graphics and a pleasure to use. Connecting to the PC without installing any of the product’s software (Windows XP) was easy and as per user manual which came in good English. The stopwatch works fine but I could not yet wrestle any one of the 3 units away from my children to test the other features. Sound quality from the unit is fantastic! Although I do not have pro audio equipment to do formal tests (nor do I intend to). I am a graphics and video professional with 20 years experience and in my opinion can say that the sound and image are beautiful. Volume control is easy and gives smooth volume control. Switching the unit on after shutting down while playing resumes playback where it left off partway through the audio track. Lyrics work well if you have the LRC files. Sound quality from the built-in speakers (headphones unplugged) were surprisingly good. Why only 4 stars? The included headphones sound great but two of them already failed on one channel. These headphones really need prompt replacing (not a deal breaker). The buttons on the front of one of the units got stuck periodically although they do work. All the other side buttons work perfectly. The USB port on the same unit had one pin move out of place and caused the data connectivity with the PC to fail. A quick fiddle with a needle fixed that problem. I have not extensively tested charging times and battery life. Conclusion: I would say this unit delivers on what was advertised. I am only slightly disappointed by the button quality and USB pin problem. Overall I am pleased. What I like about this unit is that it does not resemble an iPod but is a fairly good product in its own right – classy looks, quality finish, easy to hold and carry, brilliant screen, fantastic sound, lots of memory and easy to operate.

John Thompson asked:

If you are still not on the flat-panel monitor bandwagon, you have got to be considering doing it soon. And, if not, then you should! Its the trendiest peripheral to own. It represents power, fashion and all things young and happening. Until you replace your CRT screen you wouldnt notice how much you detested that monstrosity! But before you spend your hard earned money, getting to know the object of desire will do you wonders.

Buying guidelines:

Flat panel monitors use interfaces – analog or digital. The most up-to-date models have digital interface but an all-digital configuration costs a good deal more. If you are purchasing an analog flat panel, you should attach it with a digital interface to your video card with a digital out jack to mainstream the signal.

If you are thinking about to buy a digital interface, you need to investigate its compatibility. There are several digital interface standards available today-Plug and Display (P&D) from the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), Digital Flat Panel (DFP) from the Digital Flat Panel Working Group, and Digital Video Interface (DVI) from the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG).

The P&D interface is the oldest of the three criteria and chances are your new model wont have this convention. Support for DFP standard is seen across many hardware vendors. The DVI standard is the newer and the most popular. Do your research and whichever standard you chose, you need to match its ingredients that consists of cables and video cards!

Pixel-refresh response time: In a LCD monitor, the time required to switch from light to dark objects or vice versa, is referred to as Pixel-refresh response time. If the response time is poor (more than 40ms), you may see ghosting effect, i.e., the image seems to remain longer on the screen than it actually is!

Whereas in a text environment this would hardly matter, in a gaming or media centric environment the effect could be a deterrent. More inexpensive models give more ghosting than their costly counterparts. Also, pixel-refresh response time is not articulated on the monitors. You need to watch in detail to judge the performance of each model.

Viewing angle: One trouble with a flat panel monitor is its viewing angle. Laptop users must have experienced this problem. Moving away from the monitor in any direction causes the display to appear black! Various models offer different viewing angles horizontally and vertically.

Find the one better suited to your discretionary income! In any case, for a home PC, the viewing angle doesnt make much difference but if the monitor is going to be used for official presentations then it should have viewing angle of at least 120 degrees horizontal and 100 degrees vertical. Also, ask for add-ons like pivoting frames.

Size: bigger is better, but with flat panel, remember 15-inch screen gives you the experience of a 17-inch CRT monitor. If you can shell out for 17-inch flat panel, by all means, go for it, if not, a 15-inch screen should not be a disappointment.

Other things to check when buying a flat panel are guarantees and warranties. A three-year warranty is recommended. People change the monitor settings in stores and while purchasing; make sure that you analyze the piece adequately. You now have the basic information; all you need is time to check out the market!

Check out the great selection of big screen tvs and flat panel monitors at our site today!

David Tanguay asked:

Just as with nearly everything else, there are myths circulating about lightweight, flat panel Plasma TV screens. Understanding the myth of plasma screens and high altitudes has to do with knowing that plasma screens were developed to perform their best located near or at sea level altitudes. Therefore, it makes sense that a plasma TV would have to work harder at higher altitudes to compensate for the difference of exterior pressure.

This compensation results in the generation of heat, which in turn turns on the screens built in cooling fans, which may or may not be included in any particular system. If the Plasma TV screen has cooling fans, they usually transmit a reverberated hum. Hearing a definite buzzing sound signals that the plasma TV does have cooling fans. It is also understandable that the life span of a plasma TV be to some extent shortened.

However, some plasma TVs shows resilience in running at paramount condition of up to 5000 feet, which is pretty good. Technology works every hour developing new innovations for our use. If they can hang Plasma TV’s on the wall, they’ll soon be hanging Plasma TV’s on the walls atop mountains.

Talk with your local dealer over information concerning high altitudes, and be open to buying an LCD or DLP with thin flat screen panels, if there isn’t an available plasma TV for your location. Remember the more an item is requested, the more likely the demand for that item will be satisfied. Your local plasma TV dealer would have the most up to date information concerning these and other issues, so be sure to ask.

Understanding the myth of leaking plasma TV’s, has to do with knowing that it is not possible for gas to leak from its sealed pixel celled structure. Each element of the plasma screen is separate from the others by being sealed as well as the changing plates are sealed. When an unusual amount of pixel space of the screen display goes dark it is not possible to just fill it up again. Plasma gas does not refill, the complete panel should be replaced.

Understanding the myth of Plasma TV’s adaptability with an old VCR has to do with knowing that made for consumer use plasma TV are adaptable with an old VCR which has a component video outputs, AV and S-Video. Unfortunately, VHS is to slow in resolution with an inconsistent and poor color quality for entertaining pleasure on a Plasma TV.

Understanding the myth of Mercury poisoning has to do with knowing that you are more likely to come in contact by eating fish with traces of mercury weekly, than to have a reaction to a scant amount of container filled mercury of a TV viewing screen.

Understanding the myth of energy use has to do with knowing that studies show that the energy use of both the Plasma and LCD TV’s function more or less the same.

Alice Erin asked:

Most of us in the modern day world lead stressful and hectic lives. We do not have the time to indulge in outdoor fun and games. And recreational activities are restricted to weekends. In this context, it makes a lot of sense to invest our money in some of the “best” gadgets in consumer electronics – gadgets that keep us entertained – 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We could purchase the latest LCD televisions, for instance, to make the most of the free time that we have at our disposal.

The latest LCD televisions guarantee a ‘win-win’ situation. In the latest LCD televisions, we get to enjoy the best graphics and equally amazing sound output. TFT technology is incorporated in the latest LCD televisions and angular resolution problems are done away with. The picture quality is appreciably sharp. Moreover, LCD televisions do not require that much space. In addition, the electricity consumption of some of the latest LCD televisions is significantly less – a fact that makes a lot of sense in this day and age of efficiency in power use.

Critics could raise objection to acquiring a latest LCD television based on the cost aspect. There is no doubt about the fact that LCD televisions cost more than normal televisions. However, the price is expected to take a downward turn in the very near future – thanks to the ongoing technological innovation going on in this field.

Moreover, people interested in acquiring LCD televisions can now do so quite easily by availing attractive offers on some equally sophisticated mobile phones. LCD TVs are available as part of some very interesting contract phone offers from some reputed e-tailing sites. An interested person could easily benefit from these offers and get to acquire and use the latest LCD televisions without having to pay exorbitant amounts for the same.

Captivating looks come naturally to the LG Chocolate mobile phone. And when the attractive design of the handset is combined with its innovative capabilities – it makes for a potent combination that is too hard to give up. The LG KG 800, or the LG Chocolate, as it is popularly called, comes within an attractive black exterior. A red glowing touch pad is concealed that give that aura of ‘mystery’ to this sleek and sophisticated mobile phone model. A heat sensitive navigation and glowing red controls are the key features of the LG Chocolate mobile. As a matter of fact, the look of the LG KG 800 resembles a pad of chocolate – and it is from here that the handset derives its name.

The LG Chocolate mobile phone comes with a photo editor, calculator and calendar, which are of immense use to potential owners. Voice quality is excellent to say the least. However, the best part about the LG Chocolate mobile phone is its ease of use. There is an easy to scroll navigation wheel that makes the experience of using the LG Chocolate mobile phone a highly satisfying one.

The interface is designed aesthetically and is user friendly. A microSD memory port ensures that there is ample room for all the messages and other forms of mobile content. One can use the LG Chocolate mobile phone for enjoying music on the move. The handset comes with an integrated MP3 player that can be used for this purpose. One could even use stereo headsets to personalize the mobile music experience.

To conclude, it can be said that the LG Chocolate mobile phone is a great looking handset with all the usual features that one has come to expect in a good quality mobile phone. One can easily flaunt the LG Chocolate mobile handset and make a definite style statement. The design of the LG Chocolate would not let one down among friends, colleagues and family members.

John Thompson asked:

For anyone that still has the massive computer display that takes up half your desk, this is a fine time to contemplate choosing a flat panel display. They not only take up very little room on your desk, but also represent style and fashion that gives your office or room a modern look.

Since the flat screen display came on the market, not only has it gone down severely in price but also the variety of flat screen monitors has increased. There is now a model and price range to suit almost everyones budget. When choosing a flat panel monitor, there are some things you should consider.

Prices on flat panel monitors vary by size and manufacturer so shop throughout and compare the prices to get a great screen at reasonable cost. Prices vary but on average, the fifteen inch to nineteen-inch displays average price span is $200 – $700.

If your screen does not refresh or redraw itself at a great enough frequency, flickering occurs. When picking a flat panel screen, select one with a refreshing or redraw rate of at least 70 Hz or higher. This way you are not bothered with flickering.

Remember when choosing a flat panel display that the dot pitch on a display should be small as the picture is sharper. The biggest dot pitch you should go is .28 so you have a clear, sharp picture.

The two most common resolutions used on a flat panel display are 800×600 and 1024×768. If you try a higher resolution, it fits more on the screen but is harder on you eyes. Some people work around this by modifying the internet browser font size.

Choosing a flat panel screen means choosing one that has a great contrast ratio. This measures the difference between the darkest black and brightest white. The most common contrast ratio is 300:1

By following these guidelines, opting for a flat panel screen will be less perplexing and you will end up with a screen perfect for you.

Dominic Donaldson asked:

The digital revolution in photography has led to a huge increase in the popularity of photography as a hobby. From low resolution automatic cameras to high end Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras, the new lease of life that digital technology has bought to the industry is having a profound affect on photographic aesthetics. Once the realm of photographic professionals and artists, successful photography required the understanding of apertures, F stops, Lighting and framing. This started to change with the introduction of the automatic camera.

Automatic cameras allowed the general public, with no photographic training, to take pictures at the click of a button. This accessibility increased the popularity of photography as a hobby and this is the first point that the aesthetics began to change dramatically. The quality of the pictures was in no way comparable to that which could be achieved by a professional using an SLR camera, as the auto mated function was fairly basic. The quality of the photographic subject was also no threat to those working professionally. Blurred holiday snaps, badly framed portraits and out of focus close-ups were the realm of the amateur.

The new era of photographic equipment has revolutionised the aesthetics of this amateur photography by upping the anti in the technological department. Today’s automatic cameras have a multitude of auto focus points and utilizes technology so advanced that it had become nearly impossible to take a blurred photograph. Some of the latest cameras even anticipate the conditions with sensors, meaning that whether you are taking a shot on a snowy mountain or in a dark cave; in a moving vehicle or sitting in half lotus, each shot will turn out perfectly. And any shots that do turn out slightly fuzzy or skewed can be corrected afterwards in applications such as Photoshop, or by a digital print processing shop.

The possibility of producing such high quality images has led to many image sharing sites such as Flickr and Fotolog. These are online communities where professional s and amateurs can show off their talents and have their work rated too. It is possible to see through these sites the aesthetics of the medium changing, which has as much to do with the enhancements that digital ,technology offers whilst capturing an image as it does to the after affects that can be implemented afterwards.

Cropping, cutting and colour replacement can create images with a surreal and uncanny quality that is much more difficult to capture or manipulate on film. Consequently, the prints from the digital images differ from film prints. Film captures everything that is exposed on to it, whereas what is known as the dynamic range in digital photography means that extremes are not captured. This means that if an image has particularly shadowy or light drenched areas, a digital camera will not pick up the detail. This digital burnout produces solid black and white areas respectively.

The new wave of digital photos and digital print technology has led to a new aesthetic being seen in galleries around the world. Photographers and artists are using the new parameters as a tool to manipulate a subject, in particular, creating seamless montages of impossible images. Artists such as Jeff Wall and John Goto create images of the sublime and surreal that could not have been achieved without the digital revolution. Being able to capture images of varying scales and light so precisely and suture them together as one image by manipulating the tone and grading is a new skill for a new medium. Photographic technology will continue to evolve, producing photographs that go beyond the dark room, being rooted now with digital advancement.

Scott James asked:

People tend to confuse terminology with regards to television let’s take for example the ?plasma television?. Well technically there is no such thing as a plasma television what you are actually referring to is the display and actually a plasma display panel (PDP) is only one of several types of flat panel displays now commonly used for large TV sets or displays.

To bring it down to its most simplistic form plasma display works effectively by housing many thousands of tiny cells located between two panels of glass which are held in a mixture of inert gasses usually Neon or Xenon.

If we take a look at couple of Plasma Flat Screen TV?s we can see exactly what there is in the marketplace right now.

First up is the Panasonic TH-37PV500.

The TH-37PV500 is a 37in Plasma Small screen television furthermore the prices for these are around 1800 pounds sterling or 3900 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1024 X 720 in addition to almost someone HD Geared up the solution is yes. The Panasonic has 3 (2 RGB) scarts in addition and in addition to the number of Multimedia interfaces the TH-37PV500 uses is HDMI and the number is 1. The style of Tuner for the reason that this Small screen television is Analogue furthermore Digital and the Panasonic is accessible enjoys restricted outlets sole.

So what would we think is a fair assessment of the Panasonic TH-37PV500?

The most obvious place to start with as far as TV’s are concerned would be the picture quality and our score here would be 10 out of 10, as the other half of the “Sound and Vision” double act our opinion of the sound quality would be 10 out of 10. With regards to the availability and number of relevant connections, our score would be 10 out of 10. Overall with regards to the actual “featureability” of the set our score would be 8 out of 10 and for ease of use and overall value for money we would give the 10 and 10 out of 10 respectively.

Taking verything into consideration our overall view of the package would be this TV has to be one of the top buys on the market and if you shop around can be found quite a bit below the major asking price if you are lucky.

(The next Plasma Flat Screen TV to look at would be the|Next up amongst the Plasma Flat Screen TV?s to look at would be the} Pioneer PDP-607XD

The PDP-607XD is a 60in Plasma Flat Screen TV with the prices for these are around 6000 pounds sterling or 12000 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1365 x 768 furthermore with reference to human being HD All set the answer is yes. The Pioneer has 3 (2 RGB) scarts plus the type of Multimedia interfaces the PDP-607XD uses is HDMI and the number is 2. The type of Tuner for this TV is Analogue plus Digital furthermore the Pioneer is only available from a limited number of outlets.

So what would we think is a fair assessment of the Pioneer PDP-607XD?

The most obvious place to start with as far as TV’s are concerned would be the picture quality and our score here would be 10 out of 10, as the other half of the “Sound and Vision” double act our opinion of the sound quality would be 10 out of 10. With regards to the availability and number of relevant connections, our score would be 10 out of 10. Overall with regards to the actual “featureability” of the set our score would be 10 out of 10 and for ease of use and overall value for money we would give the 8 and 8 out of 10 respectively.

Taking verything into consideration our overall view of the package would be Forget about going to the movies – its all here at home with this great Plasma offering from Pioneer. Awesome visuals, great sound and seriously for those who fancy having their own home cinema and have got the cash then you are made! The last point is worth bearing in mind on the value for money side of things. The only down side to this Plasma TV is the cost which is almost the equivalent of the annual GDP of some banana republic but there again, if you do have the cash and the tax man doesn’t mind it would be churlish not to go for it.

From 2006 onwards industry analysts noted that effectively LCD TV?s were overtaking plasma displays particularly in the large 40inch plus market where basically plasma previously enjoyed a massive dominance since the inception of technology. One of the other areas of consolidation within the Industry has seen the Plasma manufacturing base very much consolidate with now over 50 brands being manufactured by only 5 companies ? this of course has led to economies of scale hitherto imagined where the technology of more and more screens can be shared and further help cut the overall cost base.

MIKE SELVON asked:

Everyone has fallen victim to a stereotype. Take for example the one that states all men need to have the biggest television for sale on the market. That is just not so! Women want the same thing too. Sure there are people who do not watch tv.

It is their choice and they are missing out on a great invention. If your television size and technology is not making the grade, then it is time to make the switch to a 42″ plasma or perhaps an LCD television set.

LCD and plasma flat screen televisions are the new “thing” in tv viewing technology. They come in a variety of sizes ranging from a 42 inch plasma television and on upwards to around 50 plasma. The size you need is really based on the size you want.

Your friend may have a new big screen TV, but that does not mean he or she has the best picture. Big screen televisions often have pictures that are distorted and faded. To top that off, the big screen TV’s are also incredibly bulky, heavy and take up a huge amount of living area.

With a LCD or plasma tv, you will not face the space issue. Most models are now designed to be able to hang from a wall. It does take a special mounting kit, mounting brackets on the wall and a knowledge of where your support studs are located in the walls, but it will save a huge amount of space.

If you are going to mount your flat screen tv on a wall, then please make sure you do it properly. It would be a real tragedy to have it fall to the ground and break due to faulty installation.

You can make your purchase even more impressive by adding high definition or digital cable packages. The HDTV package does have a better quality than the digital, though. Your new 42″ plasma or LCD television will show an impressive difference between the two.

Forget about the old cable and go with a package that allows your television’s best aspects to shine. You can go a step farther by adding a home theater set to boost up that audio.

It is okay to fall into the stereotype in some categories. A 42″ plasma TV is a great size that can impress any family or friend. Hang it on the wall like a piece of living art. Invite friends over for a get together and watch a great movie or the game.

There are many ways to showcase the large flat screen and justify the cost of the television set. You will be glad you took the plunge and got into the LCD and plasma rage.

Christopher Buckley asked:

Home Theater is a recent concept and is fast becoming an affordable way for everyone to enjoy the experience of the theatre – the big screen and surround sound – right in the comfort of their own home.

There are several choices for displays when designing your own home theater. Most usually, consumers will opt for a large CRT (box shaped) television, usually in widescreen format but sometimes in the old 4:3 format, else they will opt for the newer and thinner plasma screens available. However, it is worth considering home theater video projectors as they can come closer to offering the true theater experience compared to traditional televisions.

A home theater video projector can enhance this experience and is probably the most affordable solution that gives rise to the largest screen possible in the residential environment.

Whereas video projectors used to be expensive and of poor quality compared to the traditional alternative, the television, these days the technology has dropped considerable in price and is within reach of most home theater enthusiasts. Furthermore, the quality, brightness and sharpness of the image are vastly improved.

There are currently three main different types of home theater video projector – CRT, LCD and DLP.

CRT (cathode ray tube) video projectors are what you really get in a true theatre – they are the machines with red, blue and green lights. The advantages of such devices are a long lifetime and a proven, tried and tested technology that has stood the test of time for well over half a century. They also provide high image quality and sharpness. Unfortuantely, they are usually quite large, bulky and heavy. As well as this, they tend not to be as bright as their more recent digial counterparts.

LCD (liquid crystal display) video projectors use lcd wafers (like your digital watch) to either block out light completely, pass it completely, or somewhere in between. When you consider that this can be done for all three primary colours (red, green and blue) you can see that a large variation can be created and hence a projected image. Such LCD projectors are very lightweight and bright, and tend to be affordable due to the widespread use of lcd technology. Unfortunately, they suffer from a poor contrast range and bulbs need replacing very often. Bulbs are not cheap and can cost several hundred dollars depending on your model of projector – this running cost is a consideration that you should make when selecting your projector.

DLP (digital light processing) are the newest type of home theater projector. They operate in a similar fashion to lcd projectors, except that instead of lcd wafers, they use silicon chips called digital micromirror devices, or DMDs. The result is again a lightweight device as with LCD, but also brighter display and a better contrast range that its LCD brother. However, again, running costs i.e. bulb replacements, are very high.

Stephen Morgan asked:

Buying a new television nowadays is a major investment. If you are going to spend what could be considered a small fortune or at the very least a large amount of money then it would be prudent to try and make the correct decision at the outset.

Given the way technology changes it is essential to try and make sure that your purchase is relatively future-proof.

The latest telecommunication system for broadcasting moving pictures and sound is known as Digital television (DTT) and as the name implies this relies upon the transmission and reception of digital signals as opposed to the more conventional analogue formats. Other ways have been devised to receive digital television. Among the most familiar to people are digital cable and digital satellite. In some countries where transmissions of TV signals are normally achieved by microwaves, digital MMDS is used.

With this article the aim is to take a look at what is on offer with the latest generation of Flat Screen Televisions and in this case the DMTech LM17DV.

The LM17DV is a 17in LCD TV and the prices for these are around 285 pounds sterling or 560 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD Ready the answer is no. The DMTech has 1 (1 RGB) scarts and the type and number of Multimedia interfaces the LM17DV uses is HDMI and no connections are available. The type of Tuner for this TV is Analogue and the DMTech is available from limited outlets only.

So given this information, what would be our view of the DMTech LM17DV?

Well to start with our score for the picture quality is 6 out of 10, and for the sound quality we would rate it at 8 out of 10. Taking a look at the number of relevant connections and their availability, our score would be 8 out of 10. With regards to the overall level of features, our view would be 8 out of 10 if we then take a look at the ease of use and overall value for money then our scores would be, 8 out of 10 and 8 out of 10 respectively.

Finally our overall opinion would be this is one to watch if the requirement is just for a fairly basic all in one DVD/TV/PC monitor for either a study or a bedroom.

With the wide range and variety of makes and models available for you to choose from it is unlikely that you will not find something to suite your taste or satisfy any budgetary constraints that you might have. The choice, as they say, is completely down to you to decide whether to stay at the forefront of what are rapidly changing technologies and fashion or to remain part of the safer but perhaps better developed mainstream. No matter what rout you take we hope that after reading this article you should be more informed as to the correct choice with which to take.

Please be aware that the prices quoted in this article are taken from a number of leading e-commerce websites and as such should be taken as guides and indications of prices rather than absolute quotes.
