Live Digital TV Broadcast to Your Mobile Phone

Do you dream of being able to watch live digital TV on your mobile phone handset? Thanks to DVB-H, this fantasy could soon become a reality.

DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) delivers much better video quality on colour handset displays than you are used to with 3G mobile services. The difference is in the way the content is transmitted to your mobile phone handset. Instead of being streamed as a download through the mobile phone network, DVB-H allows the content to be broadcast just like free to air TV. The result is a clearer, crisper image. And just as there is no limit to the number of TVs that can tune into a TV station, there is no limit to the number of mobile handsets that can tune into the broadcast TV transmission.

The DVB-H technology was developed specifically for handheld devices like PDAs and mobile phones. It was designed to use less power than regular digital TV (DVB-T) to make it more suitable for battery operated devices.

There are currently four main competing digital mobile TV standards around the world. The DVB-H standard was formalised in August 2004 and is the one most likely to be adopted as the industry standard. Digital TV tuners have already been built into some Samsung mobile phones and are available in overseas markets such as Korea.

This new technology was on show at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, but is not yet commercially available.

In February 2006, Italian mobile service provider 3 Italia announced the launch of the first commercial DVB-H service in time for the FIFA Soccer World Cup in June. The Italians are famously passionate about their soccer, but imagine it — whatever your sport, be it hockey, football or tennis and wherever you are, you can not only know the score but watch every winning point live on your own phone. The La3service will initially have 15 channels for subscribers with DVB-H mobile handsets, including sports, cartoons and shopping. Five more channels are due to be added to La3 before the end of this year.

What You Need To Know About LCD TV Wall Mounts

Once you view a HDTV program on a LCD TV screen, you will probably be hooked for life. The colors are so vivid and the resolution so sharp that it just makes TV viewing a pleasure.

But one of the big advantages of a LCD TV monitor is it’s ability to be mounted almost anywhere thanks to it’s thin configuration. Televisions have normally been viewed as a piece of furniture that takes up floor space in your home. That’s because the old CRT TV screens were very large and bulky, especially in the larger screen sizes, and just not conducive to being mounted very easily. But LCD TVs are changing all of that. They can actually be mounted on any flat surface that is capable of supporting their weight, even the ceiling. So what do you need to wall mount a LCD TV?

Thankfully, LCD wall mounts are becoming much more popular and available as the sales of LCDs continues to grow. They can be found both online and offline and come in a variety of sizes and price ranges. You can get a simple wall mount that mainly consists of some metal brackets that attach to the wall and then the TV is mounted on them, or you can get more sophisticated and buy a wall mount that has arms that allow you to slide the TV in and out from the wall and even adjust the viewing angle as desired.

The biggest caveat with LCD wall mounts is to be absolutely certain that the one you choose will indeed support the full weight of your particular TV monitor. To find out consult the TV specifications for your monitor in the user manual or online and determine it’s weight first. Then as you shop notice carefully how much weight each mount is capable of handling. If the supported weight statistics are not shown, don’t even bother with that mount.

Once you have the type of LCD wall mount that you want, the most important step is to actually install it. If you choose to do this yourself, be sure to follow the directions from the manufacturer very carefully in the installation process. It would also be a very good idea to be familiar with doing some kind of home improvement beforehand that involves wall mounts. After all, this mount will be holding a very expensive piece of equipment and if it fails, you will stand a good chance of destoying the TV altogether. If you don’t feel qualified to install the wall mount, hire out the job to someone who you know can handle that kind of job, and factor in the installation costs to make sure that it still fits into your budget.

Once installed correctly a LCD TV will be a joy to watch for many years and will also probably be a topic of conversation for whoever visits your home.

Flat Panel Monitors Are They All Created Equal

The intuitive answer is no, and yes you’d be right for thinking that. If you see a cheap flat panel monitor for sale, you need to remember that you get what you pay for.

In general the “budget” flat panel displays will lack color balance as well as sharpness compared with the entry-level and higher end flat panel displays. Also one other consideration is whether the machine is refurbished or used. If it’s used or refurbished there is probably a higher chance that some of the pixels may be “inactive”.

What this translates to is that even if a small fraction of the pixels on your monitor or inactive, there may be parts of your monitors that will stand out more and not be consistent with the rest of the colors on your screen. Sometimes this happens with new monitors too so you need to be careful on this issue.

Though there have been discussions of ways to resolve these broken pixels, such as through special “massage” methods, its clearly preferable to get a monitor that works 100 percent out of the box.

Another thing you might want to consider is the lag time in the video output. For cheaper monitors it may lag a bit more. In general, cathode ray tubes will have the highest available performance in this regard for high end applications.

If possible test out the monitor at the store prior to buying it to see if you notice any glaring shortcomings. Otherwise you may have truly found a good deal.

Dish Network – Why Satellite But Not Cable TV

Why dish network satellite TV? What do you think on this? Because the technology used is later? Because the dish shape looks cool? No way, right? Let’s see what dish network satellite TV has that makes cable TV losing the broadcast market.

Broadcast Quality : Both cable TV and satellite TV use totally different approach in sending their broadcast. Cable TV uses analog signal while satellite TV uses digital signal. Although cable TV nowadays offers digital cable broadcast it’s limited by channels and the area you live in. Meaning you can only enjoy the digital broadcast on certain but not all channels. In another hand, satellite TV shows their higher technology in this approach. With all digital signals, you will hardly get snowy screen even though heavy rain or snow going on outside. 1 point for satellite TV.

Programming : Cable TV and satellite TV both provide high quality programming channels. Cable TV offers up to 260 channels while Satellite TV offers more than that. Satellite TV offers up to 13 programming package such as America’s Top 60, Dish Latino, just to name a few. Besides, satellite TV is more advance in term of High Definition Television where DishHD Packages is offered.

Interactive Services : Cable TV provide DVR and on demand service- you can choose from a library of shows and start them whenever. However, satellite TV is not beaten by cable TV in this because Digital services like Dish Network’s DVR (Digital Video Recorder) which gives the option to rewind while recording even in live broadcasts, EPG (Electronic Program Guide), Instant Weather, video on demand, etc. are all available on Satellite TV.

Pricing : I believe that most of us here have a strong concern on the pricing issue, haven’t you? The difference between cable TV and satellite TV in term of pricing is big. Cable TV costs you $37.30 a month for 64 channels, plus $10.95 a month to add a few digital channels. Installation in one room is $39.95, plus $9.95 for each additional room. While satellite TV charges $29.99 a month for 230 of Dish Network’s all-digital program channels, 94 music channels, 25 movie channels, and free installation in up to four rooms. Perhaps you are now clearer why satellite but not cable TV?

To conclude, satellite TV is definitely better than cable TV in term of broadcast quality, programming, interactive services, and most of all pricing. If you are looking for better experience in TV, I would thumb up on satellite TV, to be more specific, Dish Network.
